Tasting Notes:

' An easy drinking rouge that would fit for many different dishes. Dark red, nose of black fruit, hints of oak. The palate is rich and filled with black fruit. Young, energetic and the tannin has evolved to a satisfactory stage. Steady long finish with a high alcohol level @ 15.5C, yet the balance is there. The wine has turned into a luxurious palate as it has got to the peak. ‘

Things you need to know:

Richard Case, the British born winemaker of Domaine de la Pertuisane, is an expert of producing great wine. His project Department 66 is collaborated with the American iconic winemaker, Dave Phinney, who is a Napa wine legend that produced some big names such as Orin Shifts - The Prisoners and The Locations Wines.

Sarah Case, owner of Pertuisane Productions, loves to shop the flea markets of southern France. A few years ago, while they were trying to come up with a name for for their new, dry farmed, old vine Grenache, she discovered an exquisite, small antique model of an 1880’s horse drawn, pumper cart. Pompier was born. It was a perfect fit to represent this deep red, warm hearted, spicy Grenache. Since the time of Napoleon, firefighters were known as pompiers or sometimes as sapeurs-pompiers. The latter refers to the military-based Paris Fire Brigade, Pompier (firefighter) comes from the word for “pump,” referring to the manual pumps originally used for firefighting like the one depicted on the label.

Pompier is the latest cuvée sourced from the black, stony vineyards of Maury.
